LIFE: SUBSCRIBED

 -  3 min read

Win Their Trust. Win Their Buck. We’re all busy. Everyone has numerous things going on every day that prevent us from finding new, unique trends, beers, books, fashions, foods and technology. But how is the hectic professional supposed to find out about the new pale ale brewed in the West Loop of Chicago or the new caf√© that opened up in Midtown, New York? Many people want to be the first to try something new and find a low-risk way to test it out.

Online subscription services are an easy solution. Patrons want recommendations from trustworthy experts. Whether we like to admit it or not, we want input¬†on what to do, what to wear or what to buy—especially if these recommendations are interesting, delightful, entertaining or useful. And brands that are willing to do the legwork to vet and deliver the best of the best strengthen the bond between themselves and their audience.

London-based DeskBeers has leveraged this trend to bring Friday Happy Hour right to the office. DeskBeers facilitates deliveries of different craft beer to offices every Friday afternoon. Supporting the work of local brewers, the company scours the city for companies creating high quality beverages, and office workers get to sample a new beer each week — whether it’s an ale, lager, stout or bitter.

Whether it’s at home or in the office, quality subscriptions are a powerful way to discover new products with little work and minimal risk. Ask yourself: In what ways can you make it easy for your audience to try your products or services?

Examples of this trend:

In July 2014, US-based apparel¬†rental company Rent The Runway debuted its ‚ÄòUnlimited’ service. Unlimited members pay a flat rate per month to receive three designer accessories of their choosing. When they’ve finished with an item, customers simply¬†mail it back, after which the next item on their list¬†is dispatched. Shipping and insurance are included, and subscribers have¬†the option to “rent-to-own” anything they want to keep.
